August Hiegel was the father Otto Hiegel, of one of my very good friends here in Lambsborn, Germany. August was born on 9 February 1892 and fought in the First World war. He died in a mining accident in 1937 when his son Otto was only 11 years old. Below is a picture of August's decorations and his "Soldbuch" or soldier's book. It is interesting to note that he was initially in the horse cavalry and his Soldbuch denotes him being qualified with a rifle and a lance.
